Director of Community Development

OBJECTIVE: The Director of Community Development is responsible for leading all aspects of WHI’s rural development program to meet the holistic needs of children and families. The majority of Community Development programming is funded by Child Sponsorship, although there are other funding streams like Village Partnership (VPs), where U.S. churches are paired with villages to support development activities. In some countries, this position oversees a holistic approach to community development. In other countries, this position oversees education-only work at partner schools in collaboration with The Wesleyan Church. The Director of Community Development works closely with the Director of Child Sponsorship who oversees child data management, child communication, sponsor gift management, and sponsor reporting.

DIRECT REPORT:  Vice President of Programs

LOCATION: Alexandria, VA or possibility of remote work


  • In consultation with the Vice President of Programs, set the strategic direction for WHI’s Community Development programming. Identify development opportunities that can sustainably meet the holistic needs of children and their families in rural areas.
  • Supervise staff in 9 countries (Guatemala, Haiti, India, Indonesia, Liberia, Philippines, Sierra Leone, Sri Lanka, and Zambia) and the U.S. and recruit and train new staff as needed.
  • Lead the development and implementation of annual work plans, project frameworks, and budgets.
  • Support, monitor and evaluate program performance through regular tracking of financial and programmatic reports, M&E data, communication with the field teams, and periodic travel to the countries.
  • Prepare cash flow forecasts and make monthly wire requests to meet the needs of field offices.
  • Provide program updates and stories to the Director of Child Sponsorship and the Director of Communications for marketing and communications purposes.
  • Develop project proposals in coordination with the Development team for churches interested in Village Partnerships.
  • Assist with coordinating activities for short term teams visiting child sponsorship and community development programs.
  • Draft regular donor reports and annual program reports.
  • Provide input to grant writers regarding education and rural development proposals.
  • Actively support and represent the values and mission of WHI in conduct and communications.
  • Represent WHI at conferences, meetings, and events and respond to donor and prospective donor enquiries.
  • Mentor staff to ensure high levels of motivation, commitment, capacity and teamwork.



  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited university.
  • At least 5 years of previous experience in project design and implementation for an INGO in a relief and/or development context.
  • Experience developing and implementing programs as well as technical knowledge in one or more of the following fields: Education, Economic Livelihoods, Community Development.
  • Strong knowledge and understanding of the development industry, including how INGOs operate in the global and local contexts.
  • Ability to independently develop log frames, monitoring and evaluation plans, indicator tracking tables, and budgets for projects.
  • Team player mentality with interpersonal skills and commitment to motivate, support, and mentor staff working remotely.

Office Manager

OBJECTIVE: World Hope is looking for a sharp and engaged Office Manager to join our team in Alexandria, VA. We are a Christian relief and development organization dedicated to showing Christ's love around the world through the alleviation of poverty and injustice.

This position is vital for keeping our vibrant and productive organization moving. We are seeking a person who will take ownership of our office administration, from the biggest challenges to the smallest minutiae. The ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment is essential, as this position includes overseeing donor relations, gift processing, executive support, and special projects as assigned by leadership.


LOCATION: Alexandria, VA


Office Management (40%)

  • Procure, utilize, and maintain all office equipment and supplies, including troubleshooting and resolving issues with office equipment as they arise
  • Participate in the bill payment process by entering invoices that arrive in the office and filing them after they are paid
  • Distribute incoming mail and process donations that arrive at the office
  • Develop HQ staff orientation and train interns and new staff on facilities, equipment and supply needs
  • Receive visitors to the office and facilitate meetings in the conference room
  • Maintain relationship with building management and put in work orders as needed
  • Provide other administrative support to staff as needed


Gift Processing and Donor Care (40%)

  • Answer phones, resolve issues from donors, monitor general company email accounts
  • Enter gifts that arrive in our remote lockbox onto our database
  • Process and mail receipts to donors daily
  • Write thank you notes to major donors
  • Assist with database integrity projects


Support Leadership (20%)

  • Reconcile CEO's expenses and credit card purchases
  • Create correspondence for CEO in the form of letters, thank you notes, etc.
  • General executive support for the CEO, VP of Programs, and VP of Finance as needed
  • Assist the Communications Director with preparations for semi-annual Board of Directors meeting



  • High school diploma
  • At least 3 years of previous experience in administrative support, or equivalent education
  • Experience in Blackbaud/Raiser's Edge/Other donor database systems preferred
  • Team player mentality with interpersonal skills and commitment to motivate, support, and encourage staff and interns
