Supporting Families Through Education Access

When Roland moved with his family of eight to a rural community in Liberia, his hopes were rooted in steady employment at a local rubber plantation. The job came with housing, a salary, and even a school where his children’s education was deducted from his paycheck. For several years, it provided a sense of stability and progress.

But that stability quickly vanished when the plantation shut down, taking the school and Roland’s income with it. With no job and no local school, Roland faced the painful reality that his children might drop out of school entirely. The cost of education in the city was too high, and the company still owed him over two years of unpaid labor.

Roland didn’t give up. He turned to farming as a way to provide for his family, cultivating sugarcane and vegetables, which he now sells as cane juice and fresh produce. Yet the stress of putting food on the table and sending his children to school was overwhelming.

That’s when everything changed.

The same year Roland needed help most; World Hope International extended its Child Sponsorship Program to the Larry Marshall School, where Roland enrolled his children. Thanks to this partnership, his children received uniforms and school supplies, lifting a major financial burden from his shoulders.

“World Hope is taking a lot of expenses from our hands,” Roland shared. “Even though I have to work hard just to provide food for my family, I thank God for World Hope. Without them, I couldn’t afford to send my children to a good school.”

Over the past four years, World Hope has helped transform the Larry Marshall School by providing essential support and improving the learning environment. The program also promotes student motivation through school-based activities and offers long-term educational stability for families.

Today, Roland continues farming to support his family, but with much less anxiety. He sees education not as a dream, but as a reality for his children. His gratitude goes beyond words:

“I thank God so much for World Hope because the opportunity we have, others do not have. In our community, people are really happy. They praise the work World Hope is doing in the school and how it is changing our living conditions.”

Roland, like many others in his community, dreams even bigger now. His request is simple but powerful: “Please carry our school up to senior high level so our children can continue and complete secondary education.”

World Hope is not only providing supplies; it is restoring hope, building resilience, and shaping futures.
