New School Initiative Launches for Liberian Children
We have BIG news at World Hope International – our Child Sponsorship kids in Liberia are getting a NEW SCHOOL! Not only are we committed to getting kids basic access to school, but we are committed to making sure they receive high quality education while they are in school. World Hope continues to advance quality education as teachers are trained, children receive improved curricular resources through Smartbox computers and offline internet access, and facilities improve to meet the needs of basic needs of appropriate learning environments. We’re doing our best to provide optimal learning so kids can excel in future vocational and collegiate endeavors.
The Wesleyan Schools that World Hope partners in Liberia provide Christian educational opportunities for children in elementary school. Unfortunately, there is no high school level at our partner schools, so the children must find alternative schools for high school that are not part of the World Hope Child Sponsorship program. This creates a challenge for many families as they cannot afford tuition costs and often children drop out of school. Child labor, underage marriage and young childbirth are prevalent for these children.
World Hope is working to prevent these challenges by building a new school in one of our Child Sponsorship communities so kids can stay in school! The three-story kindergarten through twelfth grade building will have a classroom for each grade level reducing the current overcrowding and limited seating. Where grade levels previously had to share the classrooms divided by partial partitions, now teachers will be able to focus on their own classroom space without the noise classes competing for attention.
We are grateful to our partners who have made this dream come true. Stay tuned for news of the completed building in November!
