World Hope International Names Kargbo Regional Leader-West Africa

The move reflects WHI’s strategy to maximize efficiency and impact in Liberia and Sierra Leone.

WASHINGTON, Oct. 31, 2024/WORLD HOPE INTERNATIONAL / World Hope International (WHI) named Grace Kargbo regional leader-West Africa, effective immediately. She most recently served as country director-Sierra Leone.

The move reflects the humanitarian nonprofit’s new strategy to maximize its efficiency and impact in neighboring Liberia and Sierra Leone.

“Today, we are not WHI Liberia staff or WHI Sierra Leone staff,” said Talmage Payne, chief programs officer at World Hope International. “We are West Africa’s future. We will courageously ‘stretch our tent curtains wide’ (Isaiah 54:2).”

Kargbo brings years of relevant experience, including with World Vision International Sierra Leone. There, she became the first woman operations director and integrated programs director in West Africa. Before that, Kargbo served as a full-time lecturer and head of the Department of Development Studies at The Evangelical College of Theology in Jui, Freetown, Sierra Leone. Kargbo is one of 35 people recognized by Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma for her actions during the Ebola crisis.

Kargbo has a master’s degree in rural development studies and a bachelor’s degree in sociology and theology. She is pursuing a doctorate in sustainable development at the University of Makeni.
