About Joyce Fay Chamberlain

Joyce Fay Chamberlain was a devoted educator, lifelong learner, and generous community leader who believed in the power of education to shape lives. As a fourth-grade teacher, student-teacher mentor, and author, Joyce poured her energy into helping others grow with confidence and purpose. She held a master’s degree in education and later published Look What I Can Do!, a children’s book inspired by her own experiences raising a large family while working.

Alongside her husband Dan, Joyce served as the beloved First Lady of Houghton College for 30 years, hosting thousands of students, faculty, and families with hospitality that became legendary. From mentoring women through Bible studies to baking cookies and hosting events for hundreds, Joyce gave her time and talents generously.

Her faith in Christ guided everything she did, and her legacy lives on in the lives she touched through service, teaching, and kindness. This scholarship fund honors Joyce’s enduring belief in opportunity, education, and community.
